Usability Testing
We ran a series of remote, moderated usability testing to retrieve qualitative data. Because the main goal of the redesign was to attract more donors and volunteers, we asked testers to walk us through how they would learn more about the nonprofit and potentially donate/volunteer. We did 4 rounds of testing with each task and encouraged participants to think out loud.
We updated the wireframes accordingly after identifying our main takeaways:
- Including actionable ways to get involved such as a Donate Now button. Since the nonprofit's goal was to gain more donations, these actions must be abundant and easily attainable.
- Updating copy so users didn't feel forced to commit. For example, we used the word "Register," instead of "Learn More" for volunteer events. Users stated that it sounded like too much of a commitment and wouldn't want to sign up for anything before knowing more about it.
- Simplifying number of clicks it take to complete a task. Users wanted to be able to easily learn more about the nonprofit and engage if desired without having to click through multiple steps.
